Top 5 cottages in the Moscow region styled as medieval castles
Once upon a time, castles were a real stronghold for feudal nobles. Living in such structures was not very convenient, but it allowed them to wait out the turmoil and defend themselves against enemies. The era of the Middle Ages has long passed, but the interest in the architecture of that time remains to this day. The portal "Elite.RU" together with real estate agencies Penny Lane Realty, Kalinka Group, and Knight Frank has compiled a top-5 list of castle-styled houses for sale in the Moscow region.
1st place - Fortress in Koptsevo

The castle is located on the prestigious Novorizhskoye Highway in Koptsevo village, but quite far from the Moscow Ring Road - almost 100 km. The complex in Koptsevo fully adheres to the medieval style: from the external appearance of the buildings to the massive wooden furniture inside, as well as huge floor-to-ceiling fireplaces.
Behind the fortress wall, there is a garden with rare plants that used to grow in such estates. Access to the water, a view of it, and changes in elevation of the landscape complete the picture. The territory also matches the scale - 7.35 hectares for the residence, 8.6 hectares of forest on the riverside (1 km of shoreline), and 4.6 hectares with a stable where rare and valuable breeds of horses such as Arabian and Akhal-Teke are kept - protected by Tibetan mastiffs specially imported to guard the horses. The cost of the property is over 10 million dollars.
2nd place - Residence in Shemyakino

The second place in our ranking goes to a medieval residence in Shemyakino. The house is located 20 km from the Moscow Ring Road on Leningradskoye Highway. The total area of the building is 5,000 square meters and it features life-sized knights, collections, an art gallery, and a library. The size of the walled plot is 45 acres. The price is $3 million.
3rd place - Castle on Rublevka

The complex in the cottage village "Lyubushkin Khutor" (16 km from the Moscow Ring Road on Rublevskoye-Uspenskoye Highway) is more modest in size than the two previous ones. However, the structure fully corresponds to the Moscow region's stylistics. The walls enclose an area of 60 acres with the main building (1.2 thousand square meters) designed in the form of a castle with crenellated walls and towers with arrow slits. The basement area houses a swimming pool with a health complex. In addition, there is a guest house measuring 560 square meters. The cottage is sold without finishing. The price is $6.5 million.
4th place - Castle House on Novorizhskoye Highway

The house is also located on Novorizhskoye Highway, but just 2 km from the Moscow Ring Road in the village of Myakinino. The structure resembles a castle only with its central tower - a round donjon, as well as the facade finish "resembling stone". It features a wine cellar, library, and a fireplace hall. - Professional translation done by me, the translator. Save the html markup. Do not translate what's in English.
5th place – Fortress in Barvikha

Another castle from Rublyovskoye-Uspenskoe highway completes the top five. But it is located almost twice as close to the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) than the cottage in the village of Lyubushkin Khutor. The house, with an area of almost 1,000 square meters, is being sold with a 15-acre plot. The building is more modern, and the castle is reminiscent of only the rectangular main tower. The mansion is priced at 424 million rubles (approximately 6.8 million dollars).
Unusual castles may attract attention, but it is difficult to sell such a structure. Representative of Penny Lane Realty real estate agency, Svetlana Manzurkina, said that today the elite prefers modern comfortable homes with optimal area. This is confirmed by the head of the countryside real estate department at Kalinka Group, Anna Veprintseva: "Selling such a personalized project is undoubtedly more difficult than a classic cottage without pronounced stylistic features." According to Oleg Mikhailik from Knight Frank, "There are 2 scenarios for such properties. The first scenario is that eventually a buyer will be found, but it is impossible to predict the exposure period. The second scenario is a significant price reduction."
In general, castle houses should only be built as family residences for many generations, as they are clearly not designed for mass demand.
