What is Emirates ID?
This is an identity card for residents and residents of the UAE. It is issued by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC). Emirates ID is a plastic card with a photograph, full name, date of birth, nationality, fingerprint, chip, and unique number. It should be carried at all times and presented when requested by law enforcement authorities.
How long is Emirates ID valid?
- For citizens of the United Arab Emirates, the validity period of Emirates ID is 5 or 10 years.
- For residents, the validity of the card depends on the visa itself. Extension is allowed.
What are the advantages of Emirates ID?
An identity card is the most secure storage of your data. Having Emirates ID saves time, in particular, it simplifies passport control at the airport, so you don't have to wait in line. Important: without Emirates ID, you cannot use some services, such as renting a car or apartment, connecting to the internet, or opening bank accounts.
How to obtain an identity card
The process of obtaining an Emirates ID is quite simple and takes no more than 10 days, provided that your documents are in order.
To obtain the ID card, you need to:
- Submit an online application to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) or use the ICA UAE Smart mobile application, where you can also request the ID card.
- Undergo a medical examination.
- Print the application for the ID card request.
- Go to one of the Emirates Identity Authority centers with your passport, application, and valid visa. This is the final step of identification: specialists will take fingerprints and a photograph.
- Receive your Emirates ID after 10 days.
What to do if you lose your Emirates ID
You need to contact the law enforcement authorities. This should be done no later than 7 days after losing the card. Then you should go through the registration process as for the initial issuance of the ID card, excluding the medical certificate. Important note: the validity period of the Emirates ID remains unchanged during reissue.
