Dubai will become a pedestrian-friendly city: the grand project Dubai Walk

Dubai once again confirms its reputation as a city of the future and launches the large-scale project Dubai Walk, which will turn the emirate into a pedestrian-friendly city by 2040.

The project, approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, envisages the creation of 3,300 km of new pedestrian paths and the restoration of 2,300 km of existing routes, increasing the total network length to 6,500 km. They will connect key districts and landmarks through 110 bridges and tunnels.

Dubai Walk includes three types of routes:

  • Waterfront walking paths — 112 km along the coast.
  • Urban routes — 64 km, connecting districts and popular locations.
  • Green and rural trails — 124 km of green paths and 150 km of mountain routes.

Near the Museum of the Future, a unique 2-kilometer bridge will appear with 30,000 sq.m. of air-conditioned spaces and the same area of open zones. This facility will serve as both a functional part of the infrastructure and a symbol of Dubai's innovative approach.

The project is aimed at increasing pedestrian activity from 13% to 25% by 2040. For the convenience of residents, a mobile application will be launched, which will allow tracking routes, receiving awards, and learning about paths.

Dubai Walk is integrated into the city's Urban Plan 2040 and Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which will provide access to 80% of urban services within 20 minutes.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the project is aimed at creating a comfortable, healthy, and sustainable city. Dubai Walk is not just an infrastructure plan, but a step towards the future where pedestrians will become the basis of the urban environment, and Dubai will continue to set new standards for megacities.
