Dubai is creating unique zones for countryside tourism
The Dubai authorities have allocated $106 million for the transformation of rural areas and expansion of tourism offerings in the countryside. This was announced by the Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, who also chairs the Dubai Executive Council and serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the UAE. According to him, these investments are aimed at creating infrastructure that can attract more tourists and diversify their leisure experience beyond the urban areas.
As part of the plan, five unique thematic zones are expected to be developed along the Saih Al Salam tourist route. Each zone will comprise luxury camping sites, open-air cinemas, local product markets, and areas for active recreation. The new locations will provide tourists with a diverse range of activities - from hiking and kayaking to cycling, hot air balloon rides, and safaris.
For successful program implementation, the authorities engaged in collaboration with private companies, which will expedite the infrastructure development and improve its quality. Between 2024 and 2028, it's planned to implement 37 new projects targeting an increase in tourist influx to the countryside to 3 million people by 2040, representing a 600% increase over the current figures.
